Music & Me
Hey guys, my name is Aaliyah Morgan. I am a senior here at Converse, some of my favorite things to do is spend quality time with my family and friends and shop. I also have a YouTube channel that I have had for almost a year, and I do a lot of vlogging on my channel. Music has always been a big part of my life because I was raised in the church, and I sang in the church choir when I was little. My favorite artist is Lil Baby, and I am probably one of his biggest fans. I can sing all his songs word for word and hopefully one day my boyfriend surprises me with tickets so I can see him perform. I started listening to Lil Baby when I was 16 years old during this time, he was not popular as he is today. I am really excited for this class because I can’t wait to learn everyone's music taste because I am definitely in need of a different style of music.
A go to song for me would be Humble by: Lil Baby. This is my favorite go to song because he talks about coming from nothing and becoming something while remaining humble because it could be taken at any moment. Also, I love this song because before my brother left for basic training, we would sing this song every day before it was time for him to leave. As a track and field athlete being humble is a big part of the sport because some days you will win and some you will lose. So, I play this song first while I'm warming up because it will put me in the right headspace to go out there and compete to my best ability.
An example of music I really don't connect with would be country music. I have tried multiple times to listen to country music, but it has never caught my attention and interest. I am open to all the different genres of music, but country is one I just can’t get into. For example, the song “Big green tractor” is a popular country song and it’s very catchy, but I just don’t connect with it because it’s not my style of music.
Hi Aaliyah, I thought it was really cool that you have your own youtube channel! I've always wanted to make one but just never have. I also really like hip-hip music like Lil Wayne, he would definitely be a go to artist. I also do not really like country music now even though I used to when I was younger.
ReplyDeletehi! I was raised in church as well, I didn't sing in a choir though, but music is a big part of my life as well because of my father he played the drums and piano at our church. I am not really big on rap music such as Lil Baby, but I like some rap music. I can also relate to you as to why you don't connect with country music, because i don't either
ReplyDeleteI also wasn't a fan of country music at first, but you might like something like bluegrass or folk- those genres are a much more calm and subtle approach compared to the more "rowdy" or "pop" country that we hear a lot of today.
ReplyDeleteHi! I also don't like country music very much. I find it very hard to relate to. However I do love Beyonce! I remember listening to "Drunk in Love" all the time when I was younger!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Liyah, I love how humble by Lil Baby is a go to song for you because Humble has been a go to song for me before my games. I always put myself in a calm state to play but it gives me the ambition to do my best in the most humble way possible.
ReplyDeleteHello Liyah, I mentioned in my blog that I wasn't the biggest rap fan, but Lil baby is definitely one of the few rappers I listen to. He is definitely a go to when I am warming up at a meet. I also do not enjoy country music that much, but every now and then there is a country song that will have me singing at the top of my lungs.
ReplyDeleteI think it's very neat that you use "Humble" by Lil Baby that way while warming up! I've never thought of anything like that. I personally do like the song's topic of staying humble as well, since it does feel necessary and relatable to always remind oneself to do that.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Aliyah. I identify with your description of how the song Humble puts you in a good head space when preparing for a race. Although it is not my go my goal is also to remember why I am running and who I do it for.
ReplyDeleteHey, Aliyah, I agree with your comment about country! I used to listen to it a lot growing up but now it's something that I can't quite get into anymore.
ReplyDeleteHi Aliyah, I really relate with your comment when you said you use humble to listen to while training. I also have to listen to music to motivate me and get me in the right head space.
