Music & Rituals
Music has been a big part of my life even before I was born. My dad named me after the famous singer Aaliyah. Music has gotten me through some really hard times in life. For example, one of the hardest things I have been through was the death of my best friend my senior year of high school. This is a day I'll never forget, the morning he died he sent me a good morning text with an angel, which I did not think of at the time. He died November 13,2018 which was a Tuesday. I woke up late for school that day, so I was rushing trying to get dressed. I woke up to 25 missed calls from multiple people combined, so I knew something was wrong. The first person I called back was my mom who broke the news to me. I remember I was in the mirror brushing my hair and next thing you know I broke down to the ground crying. That was the worst day of my life. It rained the day he died and all the way up to his funeral. A song that helped me get through this grieving period was See you again by: Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth. This song stuck with me because I know I will see him again in heaven.

Holidays are very important to me because I am a family-oriented person and I love spending time with my friends and family. My all-time favorite holiday is Christmas. Christmas has always been special to me since I was a little kid. My mom is that mom who decorates for every holiday. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Newyear's, Birthdays, any holiday you can think of she's going to decorate, but the decorations for Christmas are not the reason why I love Christmas, It's the music. Every Christmas morning since I was a kid my mom played “All I want for Christmas Is you” by Mariah Carey and we would open our gifts to that song. I absolutely love that Christmas song because it's full of love and Christmas spirit. Also, every time I hear that song around Christmas, I make memories with my family of that song.
One particular event I love hearing music is weddings. I haven't been to a wedding in years, but every time I attend one the music is always beautiful and elegant. I want to have my own wedding and dance to No One by: Alicia keys. I really like this song because I can feel the passion and love within the song that makes me feel loved.

Hey Aaliyah! I'm so sorry about your father's passing, that must have been really hard. I enjoyed reading about how music got you through difficult periods of your life. Music is a beautiful way to disassociate from reality.
ReplyDeleteHey! My favorite time of the year is also Christmas, I really liked the second video "All I want for Christmas Is you" by Mariah Carey because I remember that when I was a kid when I was studying English in highschool in Spain they made us learn the lyrics of that song, so it brings back a lot of memories.
ReplyDeleteThe story of your senior year broke my heart. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I never really associated Wiz Khalifa with a sober song, however it is and it's amazing to see how music can impact someone's life.
ReplyDeleteHi! I am so sorry about what happened your senior year! I cannot imagine how hard that must have been.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is by far my favorite holiday. I am from Michigan so one of my favorite parts about Christmas is driving around seeing the snow covered landscape and looking at all the Christmas light/decorations while Christmas music is playing, I look forward to it every year!
